Why the Storm Weakened at 9:40 PM: Mercury on the Descendant

I expected the storm to intensify as Mercury crossed the Descendant in Leo, but instead, it weakened.

Mercury doesn’t generate force. it moves energy, and its effect depends on sign, speed, and support. In Leo, it's in a fixed fire sign, not flexible. So instead of firing things up, it likely disrupted storm cohesion, scattering structure or redirecting flow.

The timing was still spot-on: Mercury hit the angle just as the system changed. That confirms angular Mercury matters but more research is needed to know when it's a catalyst vs. a disruptor.

From casper mountain fire district

Good afternoon.

I think we can all agree that last night's storm was a doozy. Here is a picture of lightning strikes taken about half way through the storm The red dots indicate strikes within 15 minutes. Yes, we did get a lot of rain in areas. Some areas saw upwards of 2 inches of rain. However, with this type of storm and with this many lightning strikes, it is a possibility that we may see "hold over" or "sleeper" fires. What this means is there may be some locations where the fire is just smoldering at this time. Once the air and vegetation dry out, temperatures rise and it gets a little breeze, the fire could begin to become active and start burning. All of us should be aware of this possibility for the next few days. If you see smoke or fire, please report it by calling 911.

Thank you.
